Finding Your Interior Design Style.

Embarking on a journey to discover your interior design style can be really dauting – there is just so much choice out there and it can feel overwhelming. Follow the steps below to help you discover your style and create a home that is uniquely yours.

1.     Gather Inspiration:

Gather images that jump out at you online or in magazines or photos from places you’ve visited. Often assembling this in one place – Pinterest is good for this, helps you to see themes and patterns in things you like. The images don’t all have to be of completed homes they could be fashion, landscapes or art.

 2.     Step back and take a look:

I bet you can see a theme. Perhaps that’s colour, design style or texture. Take a note of these patterns – this is the beginnings of your design style! (How exciting!)

 3.     Consider your lifestyle

Your home is the backdrop for your lifestyle, and it needs to work for that. Before even thinking about colours and furniture you need to consider how the space is used and what things need to be in it for it to work for you.  If you're a busy bee, a minimalist or modern approach might be your sanctuary. If you're a social butterfly who loves to entertain you’ll need more seating and zones for this to happen. If you love the outdoors and have lots of hobbies it would be wise to include storage for equipment so it’s at hand when you want it but it has a place.

 4.     Architectural Features:

Your home has its own story to tell through its architecture. Allow its features to guide your design choices. Whether it's the sleek lines of modern design or the timeless elegance of classic architecture, let your home's personality shine through whilst retaining as many original features as possible.

5.     Cherish Your Belongings:

Your current possessions are like old friends, each with a story to tell. Have a look round and identify the pieces that make you smile and if there are pieces that don’t anymore consider selling or donating them. Your most cherished items are the jewels in your space and make the place uniquely yours.

6. Look in your wardrobe

Still stuck for design inspiration – look in your wardrobe! Chances are if you wear it you like the colour or texture and this could be incorporated in to your home. Take some inspiration from your favourite trousers and top combo. Go on I dare you!

7. Hire help: Still feeling a bit stuck? Don’t worry here’s where I come in with my superskill of reading people quickly and getting their design style nailed for them.

Your home is a reflection of you, and your life journey. As you gather inspiration and try to make sense of it always remember it must be unique to you and your life. There are no wrong choices only rooms waiting to become an extension of you!
